TYPES OF MASSAGE MODALITIES OFFERED

PLEASE NOTE: Modalities and Rates offered above are for Hands of Zen Massage therapy and Bodywork only.  When scheduling, other Massage therapists listed may not offer all modalities listed below and may offer different rates above.  When choosing a Massage therapist and a service, you will be able to choose the modality that best fits your need to optimize your health and well-being.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork.  It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as, effleurage, petrissage, rolling, kneading, rocking and percussion to help the body improve its circulation.  You will achieve a wide range of benefits including relief from aches and pains, decrease stress levels in your body, improve appearance, enhanced mental clarity, and greater flexibility.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of muscle tissue in the body.  This form of massage is highly effective for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries.  Due to the nature of deep tissue work, open communication is crucial to make sure you are not too uncomfortable.  Please keep in mind that soreness may occur after treatment and it is highly recommended to drink plenty of water to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will be released during this treatment protocol.

Sports Massage/Orthopedic

Sports/orthopedic massage is a type of massage specifically designed for highly active people who are engaged in athletics or have acute/chronic joint and muscle pain.  Commons symptoms include: Neck issues, Shoulder issues (i.e Rotator cuff or frozen shoulder), Neuropathy, Sciatica, Low back surgery pain, Hip issues, Knee pain and Feet and Ankle pain.  Sports/orthopedic massage will enhance your performance and prolong a sports career by helping you to prevent injury, reduce pain and swelling, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve injury recovery time.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue of the body.  The purpose is to seek re-balancing of the body structure by releasing tension in the fascia.  Long, stretching strokes are utilized to release muscular tension.  Myofascial release will help relieve pain and tension due to injury or stress.

Acupressure Therapy

Acupressure is an ancient Chinese healing method that involves applying pressure to certain meridian points on the body to relieve pain.  The human body has fourteen "meridians" that carry energy throughout the body.  These meridians start at the fingertips, connect to the brain, and then connect to organs associated with the specific meridian.  Acupressure uses gentle but firm pressure of hands.  Acupressure deals with all the aspects of a person as a whole: body, emotions, mind, spirit as one.  It relaxes muscular tension and balances vital life forces of the body.

Thermal Palm Therapy

Thermal Palm therapy is very similar to Hot Stone therapy.  With the deep penetrating heat of the Thermal Palms you have the option to have a full body massage or you can customize your heat treatment to specific areas of the body such as, neck, shoulders, back, legs, arms, hands, and feet.  You will receive a deep tissue massage along with the heat of the Thermal Palms to aid in the ability to move toxins and waste through your body.  This treatment is great for those clients who have a specific injury or pain that would benefit from heat therapy.

Fire Cupping Therapy

Cupping is a practice of Chinese medicine recommended mainly for treating bronchial congestion, arthritis, and pain.  It is also promoted to ease depression and reduce swelling.  Cupping is used to realign and balance the flow of one's vital energy and life force called, Qi or Ch'i, pronounced "kee" or "chee."  In the presence of illness or injury, the Ch'i is disturbed and there may be too much or too little at certain points in the body.  A flammable substance such as, alcohol is used to flame a cotton ball that is introduced into a glass cup.  A vacuum is formed inside the cup and placed upside down over Ch'i pathways according to traditional Chinese medicine which are linked to the client's illness or injury.  The cup is usually left in place for 5 to 15 minutes.  This suction will open up the skin's pores and create a route for toxins to escape the body.  The skin under the cup reddens called, "Shaw" as blood vessels expand.  The results will allow your body's natural lymphatic system to process out the toxins to promote healing.

Raindrop Technique Therapy

Raindrop technique therapy is a unique and powerful massage that utilizes nine therapeutic grade essential oils. They are applied using massage techniques that will open up the nervous system and allow these oils to gently seep into the pore of your skin and provide therapeutic benefits to your body.  This technique creates relaxation, realignment, emotional, spiritual, and mental balance to your whole body.  This is a awesome therapy with healing powers!

Rapid Release Technology

Rapid Release Technology (RRT) is a unique vibrational device that specifically resonates with scar tissue.  The frequency of RRT treatment triggers the "Tonic Vibration Reflex (TVR)" which instantly releases muscle tension.  RRT is the only vibration device that is comfortable and safe to use over most areas of the body.  It is used to treat scar tissue build up, adhesions that cause pain, numbness or limited range of motion.  If you suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Tendonosis, Tennis or Golfers Elbow, TMJ, Back, Neck, Shoulder, Frozen Shoulder, Ankle Pain, Headaches, Muscle Spasms and/or knee problems this treatment might be right for you.  Treatment sessions can be 15 to 30 minutes.  Some clients get immediate results however, it could take 2 to 6 short treatments to get full benefits of therapy.
